Workshop by UNICEF India’s CP Specialist, Vedprakash Gautam

Child rights are considered as prime rights under the Universal Declaration of Human rights. Children are vulnerable due to their age and maturity levels. The Child Rights convention, 1989, which became effective on and from 1990 created a unique child right jurisprudence which influenced many state parties to create/implement laws for child rights. UNICEF is the Primary stakeholder for supporting and monitoring child rights. On 27th February 2019, UWSL organized a half-day workshop on Child rights and the role of UNICEF in India for BBA-LLB students by Vedprakash Gautam, Child Protection Specialist, UNICEF, Gujarat. Mr. Vedprakash Gautam was welcomed by Prof. (Dr) Saroj Bohra, HOD, UWSL. On this occasion, UNICEF Gujarat, represented by Mr. VedPrakash Gautam was also gifted two books Child sexual abuse and protection laws in India (published by Sage Publishers) and Cybercrimes against women in India (Hindi version as published recently by Sage Bhasha ), both authored by Professor (Dr) Debarati Halder. Mr. Vedprakash Gautam threw light on basic rights of child, UN Child Rights Convention and discussed the role of UNICEF in India with a special reference to Gujarat. The workshop ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Professor (Dr.) Debarati Halder.
